Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition Tension Suppression System NTI-tss

NTI Guards for TMD, Clenching and Grinding

What is the NTI?

The NTI-tss (Nociceptive Trigeminal Inhibition-Tension Suppression System) is a device approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the prevention and reduction of:

  • pain caused by temporomandibular disorders (TMDs)
  • bruxism
  • occlusal trauma

It is a simple plastic appliance which is worn over the front upper or lower teeth to keep the back teeth apart.

It can be worn day or at night in times of high stress to reduce clenching and grinding, and their effects on your teeth and jaw muscles.

How does the NTI work?

The NTI reduces tooth clenching, grinding and pressure on the temporomandibular joint. In doing so, this leads to a reduction in hyperactivity of the trigeminal nerve, often triggering pain associated with the muscles supporting the lower jaw.

The objective of the NTI-TSS is to relax the muscles involved in clenching and mastication, thus diminishing the chances for pain to develop.
